Malon moved about the halls trying to keep a casual look about himself taking glances into a few rooms. His pace was brisk enough to cause his messenger bag to bounce a bit by his side. He was quite familiar with the composition of a Weyr for most of his life had been spent in one. But this one was rather different, and he was unfamiliar to this Weyr. The rider he was with never really clarified anything but where his barracks were.

Peeking into one room he saw it was the record room and it was empty. It'd be a lot quieter than some places he had the option of going to at this time. He enjoyed socializing but it was always a bit awkward when you don't know anyone. So he could hold off introducing himself probably. Until he got comfortable here, or something happened to make joining around with the rest of the candidates less strange to speak too.

"Hm." He grunted as he accidently walked into the wall a bit as he entered the room. Sitting down on a chair the green flitt that had been on his shoulder moved onto a space on an empty nearby shelf and curled herself up to rest a bit. Relaxing in the chair he took out a book that seemed to be mostly made up of blank sheets and a stylus. Dropping the bag to the floor he sighed looking up as if the ceiling would tell him what to do. Opening the book when an idea finally set in mind, Malon began to pen down words line by line.

Why on Pern was J'rew in the Records Room? He had no idea. However, as soon as he had given his transfer papers to the Weyrwoman, the woman had sent him off to the Records Rooom, asking if him if he could document his arrival at the Weyr, because she was required to go speak with... someone. He didn't remember who, but it was apparently important. She had apologized again and again, saying that this didn't usually happen, but what could he do but say it was okay and leave for here.

So here the bluerider was, cursing his new Weyrwoman. Feanoth, of course, was laughing at him non-stop, and saying that Tiressa was a fine woman, but she was busy. Stop being so hard on Rayith's, Mine. She's things to do, and you don't. Your things are up here - my annoying little cousin unloaded them off of my back. I think she's coming no-- J'rew cut him off abruptly, as Gossip then appeared. The green chirped a single time, before surveying the room, flicking her tail in annoyance, and landing on her minething's shoulder gracefully. Of course, as soon as she landed, she began chattering nonstop, sending him weird images of this and that... a runnerbeast with babes and women, dragons, a wher, and quite a few other people -- it was too much of a flurry of images to distinguish the rank of the people, unless they were with their dragons. Erg.

"Alright, alright. Your little flitternese is bad enough, love, without you destroying my sanity with all your little pictures." The green whacked him with her tail lightly upon his head, much like a human would smack someone upside the head, before scolding him again. "Gossip... fine. I'm sorry. Happy?" This apparently satisfied the little flitter, for her chattering subsided for a moment.

"Mind helping me with all this? Not that it's really much, but... Erg, nevermind. It's not hard to write your name, rank, and the date down. And anything else you have to do is involving the transfer papers. It's not like you can write or read, anyways." The creature whacked him again, causing the rider to roll his eyes. "It's true, and you know it." I heard the healers saying something about talking to yourself being one of the first signs of being strange or slow. I don't think you're slow, but it's another matter for being strange. Shaking his head, J'rew bent his head over the record and slowly wrote his name. This would be a long process, if these two continued nagging him.

Well... maybe it wouldn't only be Gossip and Feanoth bothering him, J'rew realized as a boy came into the room, running into a wall in the process. The candidate seemingly didn't realize that there was someone in here -- no mater. He had no problem with making himself known, and it might be a little difficult to see J'rew in here, with the dim glows.

"Hello. I'm J'rew of Blue Feanoth." The bluerider offered a smile. "And you, a candidate by your knots, might be known as..." Even as Feanoth's rider greeted the boy, Gossip surveyed Malon. She never ceased her twittering, although it turned quizzical. Great. More noise.

Malon looked up from his unruly sitting position. Legs hanging over one arm rest with his back against the other. Probably looked rather slobbish or lazy. A look of surprise had crossed his face as he heard the rider talking to him. He was sure nobody else was in here when he came in. How did he miss seeing a bluerider. He couldn't lose position as a candidate because of disrespect of not acting proper in the presence of a rider.. could he? Sure he'd lived in a Weyr most of his life but candidates never really crossed his mind. Perhaps learning more of the duties and responsibilities was something he should look into.. after he figured out where everything was, learnt more of the Weyr, met some people.. He had a lot to do.

"I'm Malon, a candidate searched from Keroon Hold." He answered with his usual fearless, joker voice. With that he stood up from the position that he was in. It was easy thanks to his long body. Trying to seem friendly as possible he let a slightly toothy smile cross his face. First impressions really counted so he might as well give one that counted, Malon couldn't really afford to make an enemy. He'd only been in the Weyr less than 3 days.

Hearing all this chittering Dabble flew down to wrap her tail around his shoulder and perch. Though she was silent there was this look to her of protectiveness of her bonded as well as fear of the rider, her tail tightened a bit more. "Easy girl. You really oughta loosen up." Malon paused as an image of dragons flashed in his head. "Of course there are dragons, its a Weyr, not a Hold. Now stop choking me. I don't want a noose!" The green's tail loosened a bit. Over his other shoulder appeared a blue flitt who chittered a bit getting the female to stop the restricting hold. The blue went to land and missed with Malon catching him and placing the flitt opposite the other. Looking back up to the rider he gave a nervous/embarrassed smile. "These would be my two flitters Dabble and Klootz." Each one chirped as they heard their name. "What did you name yours, sir?"

The boy looked quite surprised, after J'rew had made himself known. He hadn't been meaning to startle the candidate... but it was too late to amend it, now. The toothy grin that the bluerider received in response made him loosen up a bit - maybe he hadn't starteled Malon as badly as first thought. "Well, welcome to the Weyr, candidate Malon." Smiling cheerfully, J'rew motioned for the boy to sit back down. There was no reason for him to stand up - he was a bluerider, not one of the Weyrleaders. It really wasn't that big of a deal.

"Sir? Oh, please, Malon, you make me feel old," J'rew intoned, rolling his eyes. "If you call me sir, I might as well return the favor." He had to smile at the two flitters, though, even as Gossip hissed at them. Excuse her? Why were there two ugly creatures imposing in her minething? "This little vicious thing is Gossip. When she's not so enraged at the competition -" the bluerider nodded towards Dabble, "- you'll see why. She's just a jealous, weird little thing. Yes, dear, I called you jealous and weird. Get over it. You know as well as I that it's true." The small green, perched on her bonded's shoulder, flicked J'rew with his tail before focusing all of her hatred on the other two flitters... mainly the other green. Now, that blue... he wasn't that bad.

"Don't mind her, please, Malon. She's... strange. Once she gets to know Klootz, at least, Gossip'll be fine." J'rew scooped the green off of his shoulder, cradling the little one in his arms. She calmed a bit, but kept looking over her bonded's arms at Dabble with a fierce flitter-glare... if that's even possible.

"I-I'm sorry." He replied in haste after hearing J'rew's response to being called sir and seeing his motion for him to sit down. In truth he was a bit nervous, no less nervous than Dabble who was scared witless of Weyrs which she'd never been to or know its inhabitants for that fact, her much larger cousins were frightening. Malon sat back down in his chair with his head a bit titled down in a mixture of embarrassment, nerves, and the fact that he seemed pretty dumb in his mind thus far.

Any man or lady of equal or greater power was to be spoken to with respect, 'Sir', 'Ma'am'; and no matter the rank of the rider they were always the highest class of Pern.. or at least thats the lessons he was brought up with. J'rew seemed to appose this effort of respect. Did all riders in Althea act this way? Just goes to show how little he truly knew of Althea Weyr.

Malon rubbed Dabble's head lightly so she'd rest and just stay silent, like she weren't there and close her eyes. Oh how fortunate it was to have a flitt who could remain virtually unmoved by so much in life, especially other greens. "Klootz has no interest in Dabble, Dabble holds a preference for browns as well. They are virtually incompatable with each other." Malon stated in a softer voice of controlling the emotions and trying to shake off what embarrassment he felt.

Hearing Klootz chirp to Gossip with a tilt of his head just added some unsurity to his situation, if a flitter tilting his head inclined any emotions that would match a man or a canine's he had reason to worry. Before he knew every flitt and bonded, now he knew no one. Klootz's socialness had a tendency to get drawn into flights, and Dabble being a green would rise often. All this gained Malon a number of lovers in the past, male and female due to the fire lizards.

Shaking his head, J’rew looked on at Malon, still with his grin. He hoped that the boy didn’t think that he was mocking, for it simply amused the bluerider that one could be so respectful… at least, so respectful to him. It was ironic, actually, simply ironic. For J’rew had once been like this boy – maybe not a drastic, but like this boy no doubt. And he had treated everyone of higher ranking that way, until he came to the Weyr. Then it had almost faded away, simply because there were points when you didn’t know who was your better. There was the older candidate, who you would normally be respectful towards because he was your elder, yet the thought of equality was forced on each and every candidate. And then there was that brownrider that you simply despised, but since he was higher than you in rank, you had to treat him with respect, or no brownriders respect.

It was confusing.

J’rew kept tight hold of his little flitter, listening to Feanoth’s pleasant, yet infuriating, side remarks. Oh, Mine, you know you enjoy my comments, infuriating or not. It allowed the bluerider to be distracted for a moment, as he shook his head at his dragon, and Gossip managed to wriggle out of his grasp. The little green headed straight for Dabble – after all, she would Fly soon, and Klootz had better be one of her chasers. The flitter squawked, flapping and winging her tail around to smack Malon’s hand off of Dabble so she could have a clear shot at the other green. Really, though, Gossip didn’t care if her tail connected with human flesh, as long as the candidate would realize that he had better move away from Dabble and angry Gossip.

Still, you had to give some credit to the bonded of this deranged flitter: J’rew. He wasn’t a dimglow, he had been bonded to Gossip for turns, and he therefore knew her tendencies towards greens – especially when she was near Flight. The bluerider quickly stepped forward to grasp at his bonded, grabbing the very end of her tail, and Gossip easily slid it out of his hands. Grabbing again, he managed to get a wing, and he dragged it towards him despite her hiss of infuriation at being thwarted from clawing the other’s eyes out. Murmuring apologies, the rider stepped back again, holding Gossip tightly in his arms and scolding her whilst he managed to keep up the string of apologetic terms.

Finally, he had her calmed down somewhat, and the bluerider turned his attentions back to Malon. “So sorry,” he said once more, bowing his head in regret. His sharding green – attacking another! J’rew shook his head, apologizing even again for his flitter’s dreadful behavior, as said flitter squawked and twittered her own apologies – he hoped – in her flitternese. She finally, however, quieted, looking towards Klootz with a dangerous look, one that her bonded had seen too many times.

Great. She was about to flirt.

((Sorry... I don't like this post. D: I had more Gossip-muse than J'rew-muse, so... this is what I came up with. Again, sorry! xPP D: ))

Despite Gossip's chittering, they seemed to be failing to come through to the shocked Klootz. The blue's attention turned toward his bonded and Dabble. He gave a rather harsh look and a quick chitter that made him almost seem for a time of even a brown rank with that eye of his. Violence wasn't what he liked, especially when his had been hurt by a relative stranger.

Dabble's response was one angry chirp for the undeserved attack. But then a sad look was in her faceted eyes when she looked at Malon. Apparently he had told her something. It took a little while but the green left his shoulder and went between somewhere. It was the only way to stop her from getting harmed and although it depressed and possibly angered the passive little flitter, it was better than getting mauled by Gossip. Over what? Klootz? Ah, Dabble knew she could easily out fly her elder companion any day, considering browns were more her type.

After Dabble's departure Malon rubbed his hand a bit. There was a faint red mark on the back of his hand where the fire-lizard's tail had made contact with his skin. There was no scratch, bleeding, or bruising, just a mark was left from the smack. It did hurt a bit, like the sting of slap, a woman's slap at that. He eyed the mark briefly for a bit before looking up at J'rew with a faint smile, "Its alright, no harm done. Some flitts just get worked up around others." He allowed himself a small chuckle in efforts to show the man everything was alright. Having a rider bow to him was certainly new to him.

Gossip was not at all fazed by the blue’s inattention to her graceful apologies. Instead, that dangerous look still in her eyes, she slowly began to curve her neck around, showing her best angles as she quietly began to string up a line of chitters, squawks, and chirps. The green became even more enthusiastic in her flirtations when that other green went away. That green was competition, as strange as that was. After all, she, being the prettier, more adept creature, would easily win this little blue.

Aw, shard the green. Having caught sight of the blotch of red on Malon’s hand, J’rew silently cursed. And here he had been, trying to make pleasant conversation with the kid. Glaring down at Gossip – who, of course, paid no attention to him – he apologized again. “Yes, that would be my annoying little one. Is your own green alright?” The chuckle that emitted from the candidate’s mouth scarcely reassured him, although he supposed that anyone who’s bonded (whether it be flitter, dragon, wher) was injured by another, they wouldn’t be so good-natured about it.

He thought for a moment about trying to get Gossip to go back to Feanoth, as Malon had sent his own green away, J’rew decided not to even try. Yes, he had trained her. She had learned quickly, and was a semi-obedient firelizard. But he knew better than to issue an order that would be ignored, as it would make him look like a fool. And she would probably leave off her flirtations just long enough to give him a matching red mark on his arm. Strange, strange creature.

You sure you don’t want me to call her off? Feanoth asked, his voice chock-full of amusement at the little one-sided battle. She might just listen to me, you know. My little cousin tends to like me. The bluerider seemed to be mock-glaring at a random record, for a moment or two, as he focused his eyes on the spot that he knew Feanoth was, simply a few dragonlengths away. “No,” he murmured, both aloud and mentally. “I can handle the little demon.” And although Gossip profusely denied being a ‘demon’, the worst she did was smack him lightly, off-handedly, on the arm. She was too busy flirting to actually scold him, although no doubt that would come later.

“So, Malon. What are you doing in the Records Room? I know that I certainly wouldn’t want to be here by choice, but I suppose it’s all by preference.” The man shrugged. But truly, he was curious. What brought a candidate from… Keroon Hold, he said? Yes, what brought a candidate from Keroon Hold down to the Records Room?

((Finally! -kicks self- I blame my J'rew muse! It was virtually empty. Hopefully, I got it back up to par, but I'm not sure. Sorry for the wait!))
